MICHAUD COMMUNITY CENTER
Ryan Epps Home for Children is proceeding with construction of a community center for the Michaud community in Haiti. The building site is a short walk from the REHC home and school. The community center is an exciting opportunity for the Haitian people to receive vocational and educational training. Parents will gain skills which will prepare them for employment so they can provide for their children, and will enable young adults to gain skills allowing them to provide for themselves. The center will also have a small medical clinic and will house the community church.
The community center will have two floors and be built in two phases. Phase I will be the first floor. When Phase I is completed, the center can be used for its intended activities. The second floor will be built as funds allow.
Estimated cost of Phase I is $122,704. REHC currently needs $22,000 to complete this phase. Phase I includes excavation, footings and a rebar-reinforced-concrete foundation; a concrete floor, block walls and electrical wiring; and a concrete ceiling, floor tiles, doors and windows. Local Haitians are employed and are working on Phase I During 2013, REHC teams will be assisting with the work.
